Gov. Matawalle appeals for unity as three APC LG congresses take place simultaneously in Zamfara

Zamfara’s governor, Bello Matawalle, called on all factions of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to put down their swords and unite on Saturday.

Mr Matawalle made the request while speaking to APC delegates at the party’s Local Government (LG) conference in Maradun, Maradun LGA in the state.

In Zamfara, the APC is divided into three factions: Governor Matawalle’s side, AbdulAziz Yari’s faction, and Kabiru Marafa’s faction.

“I still insist that APC in the state is still one family since no court or even the national headquarters of the party has instructed the party in the state to suspend its congresses,” the governor remarked at the congress in Maradun, the headquarter of his LGA.

Mr Matawalle stated, “The fact that there was no court order or instruction from the party’s headquarters to prohibit the congresses suggests clearly that the congresses are legitimate and acceptable.”

He, on the other hand, accused some APC members of misleading those criticizing the party’s leadership in both the state and at the national level, claiming that the time for harsh politics was passed and that politicians no longer preferred it.

“Today, the world is a global community in which developmental democracy thrives.

“Let us work together to construct a political, economic, and social state in Zamfara, regardless of political differences.”

“Through these congresses, the state chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has effectively elected officers to manage the party’s operations at the ward and local government levels,” the governor stated.

The factional congresses organized by Matawalle and Marafa in Gusau, Bakura, Bungudu, Maru, Maradun, Tsafe, and Kaura Namoda LGAs were held in high security.

The Yari-led side, on the other hand, boycotted the party’s congresses, urging his supporters not to attend and characterizing the process as unlawful.

His group had won a Federal High Court ruling mandating that the factions “keep the status quo” until the substantive suit was resolved.

At a rescheduled hearing on November 17, the court set a deadline of December 2 for a decision on the case.
