Bola Tinubu, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has stated that he will declare his intention to run for president in the 2023 elections in January 2022.

This was revealed by Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Works and Housing, who stated that Mr Tinubu has yet to inform him of his presidential bid.

“I saw him last week; he didn’t tell me he’s running for office, and the last statement he made about it, to the best of my knowledge, was that people would know in January,” Mr Fashola said during a Channels Television interview.

“No, I didn’t ask him,” Mr Fasola said when asked if he questioned the party chieftain about the rumors. “I only went to see how well he was doing.” “He has issued a statement that “I will speak in January,” so let’s wait for his speech,” the minister said.

Mr Fashola went on to say that he couldn’t immediately declare support for any candidate because he was waiting for an official announcement.

“As far as I’m aware, no one has said, ‘I want to be President of Nigeria.'” There are people who speak on behalf of others. Nobody has come forward yet; we aren’t there yet.

“I can’t go out on a limb and say I’ll speak for X or Y.” The minister said, “Let the person come out and say, “I want to serve Nigeria.”

“It hurts me sometimes when we see that very important job and responsibility to,” he continued, “my people said.” Mr Fashola stated, “I believe the whole point of it should be that I am capable, that I have to look at myself, that you give me your problem, and you go to sleep.”

While Mr. Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, has yet to make an official announcement, there have been hints that he may run to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

Billboards and posters promoting his election campaign have flooded Nigeria’s major cities, particularly Lagos and Abuja, in recent months.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos state, launched a political group for Mr Tinubu’s presidential campaign in 2023 last month.

The SWAGA23 group was launched in Ikeja on October 7 to kick off campaign activities for the former Lagos governor.

Mr Sanwo-Olu said during the inauguration, “The SWAGA we are launching in Lagos today is a demonstration of Tinubu’s enduring political principles and strong vision.”
