The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, accused the Nigerian government on Friday of plotting to assassinate its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, while he was in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS.
IPOB claimed that the Nigerian government intended to assassinate Kanu and declare a state of emergency in the Southeast.
The IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, claimed that the Nigerian government is concerned about the international attention Kanu’s arrest in Kenya has received.
Powerful claimed in a statement he signed that some top government officials in this administration are afraid of their fate at the International Criminal Court, ICC, in The Hague, and are thus plotting to kill Kanu.

“We, the global movement and family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), ably led by our great liberator and prophet Nnamdi Kanu, wish to alert Biafrans and the entire humanity to the wicked and oppressive federal government of Nigeria’s plans to eliminate our leader, Nnamdi KANU, and declare a State of Emergency in the entire South-East and South-South regions of Nigeria,” he said. This plan is real, and everyone should take it very seriously.”
Following the cancellation of its sit-at-home order, IPOB stated that the Nigerian government is after Kanu because of the free and fair Anambra governorship election.
“Nigeria is further aggravated by the humiliating defeat it suffered in the recently concluded November 6 Anambra State governorship election, which the federal government believes was made possible by our wisdom in canceling our previously declared one-week sit-at-home order.” Our action was regarded as the masterstroke that shattered their plans to manipulate the outcome of the poll if people did not vote.
“Irked by our Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s heroic role in raising the consciousness of not only Biafrans but other Indigenous nationalities about the fraud known as NIGERIA, the Fulani cabal who benefit from this fraud are hell-bent on eliminating him at any cost.” They want to punish him with death while ignoring the consequences. They intend to murder him while he is in DSS custody.”

Kanu is being held in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day in DSS custody, according to the separatist group, and is not allowed to change his clothes.
IPOB also claimed that its leader was denied access to his personal physicians as well as any medical investigation into the substance injected into him during his kidnapping in Kenya.
