EFCC interrogates former Edo Gov Lucky Igbinedion over an alleged N1.6 billion fraud

Lucky Igbinedion, a former governor of Edo State, was grilled by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives on Thursday over alleged criminal diversion of N1.6 billion in public funds.

According to NAN, the former governor arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, around 2 p.m. on Thursday.

Shortly after leaving office as governor in 2007, Igbinedion was charged and convicted of corruption by the EFCC.

However, according to a source who was not authorized to speak on the matter, the new investigation was based on new evidence against him.

According to the source, the former governor diverted a loan obtained by the Edo State Government to finance an investment during his tenure in order to settle the financial indebtedness of a company in which he had a stake.

Wilson Uwujaren, the Commission’s spokesperson, confirmed the former governor’s invitation but declined to comment further.
