In Zamfara, bandits kill seven police officers and set patrol vehicle on fire

ABOUT seven police officers were ambushed and killed by suspected bandits on Monday in the Tofa-Magami Road area of Gusau Local Government Area in Zamfara State, while their patrol vehicle was set on fire.

Salisu Sani, a local resident, told the Nigerian Tribune that the incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. on Monday, while police officers were patrolling the area.

“The bandits ambushed the police officers, killing seven of them and setting their operational vehicle on fire,” Sani said.

He claimed that the bandits, who were in large numbers, engaged the cops in a gunfight, killing seven of them.

“I saw their dead bodies being evacuated to Gusau,” the source said.

SP Mohammed Shehu, the state police command’s spokesman, did not return calls seeking confirmation of the development as of the time of filing this report.

Awwal Ruwan-Doruwa, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Yarima Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau, confirmed that seven slain police officers’ bodies were brought to the hospital.
