EPL: Ronaldo is minus one for Man Utd he should be benched – Ikpeba

Former Nigeria international Victor Ikpeba has described Cristiano Ronaldo as a “minus one” for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United team.

The former Nigerian striker went on to advise Solskjaer to sit the Portuguese superstar on the bench.

Manchester United’s last game before the international break was a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City, and Ikpeba questioned Solskjaer’s tactics.

Despite scoring 9 goals in 12 appearances this season, the former African Footballer of the Year questioned Ronaldo’s contribution to the team.

Ikpeba blamed United’s attackers for the loss to Man City, claiming they failed to play a high-pressing game while City defended as a unit.

The former Monaco winger stated that Ronaldo has an excellent goal-scoring pedigree but contributes little or nothing to the Red Devils team.

“Great managers come from the ability to get the best out of your players, but if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer isn’t getting the best out of these players, I feel some of the Manchester United players up front are very lazy,” Ikpeba said on SuperSport’s Monday Night Football.

“I want us to look at the game against Manchester City and see how Jesus, Kevin De Bruyne, and Bernardo Silva pressed.” They did not allow the defenders to begin the build-up from the defense; why can’t Manchester United players do the same?

“We saw what Crystal Palace did to Manchester City; they defended very well.”

“I always say Ronaldo is a minus one for Manchester United.” He can score beautiful goals, but he can’t defend.

“When you look at the opposition, they defend as a team, they attack as a team, and they know when to play the pressing game.”

“Solskjaer must be ruthless.” “I’d like to suggest that when Ronaldo is not performing well, he be benched.”
