Members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have denied calling for a boycott of the anticipated Saturday governorship election in Anambra State ahead of the November 6 governorship election.

The outlawed group had declared a one-week sit-at-home order in solidarity with its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who is being held by the Department of State Services, according to the Daily Independent (DSS).

Following the declaration, various groups claimed that the secessionist group had threatened to boycott the Anambra election if Kanu was not released before the election date.

“This action has nothing to do with the election in Anambra.” We are unconcerned about whether or not anyone wants to vote in the Anambra election. However, our only advice to Ndi Anambra residents, particularly those planning to vote, is to be extremely cautious about their safety.

The banned organization stated that it had not asked anyone to enforce sit-at-home orders, and that a voice message purportedly emanating from it, warning hoteliers in Anambra State to close their doors, was false.

“We want to state categorically that IPOB has not asked anyone to monitor or enforce any sit-at-home because it is unnecessary because Biafrans willingly and consciously obey IPOB’s call for Sit-At-Home.”

“Our people are tired of the suffering and oppressive conditions imposed on us by the abomination known as Nigeria, and they don’t need persuasion to act.

“We also want to distance IPOB from a viral voice message warning hotel owners in Anambra to close their doors on November 4th.” IPOB never made the aforementioned voice note. In their desperate attempt to implicate IPOB, our oppressors have created yet another work of art. As a result, we urge members of the public to disregard such nonsense. Nnamdi Kanu’s IPOB is not the author.”
