The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that it has made contact with a number of victims trapped beneath the rubble of the 21-story building that collapsed on Gerard Road in Ikoyi.
Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, NEMA Coordinator, South West, revealed this at a press conference held at the scene of the incident.
According to him, some people trapped beneath the rubble have made contact with their loved ones.

A 21-story building that was still under construction in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State collapsed, according to Nairametrics.
On Monday, November 1, 2021, on Gerrard Road in Ikoyi, an unfortunate incident occurred. Nosa Okunbo, a LASEMA spokesperson who confirmed the collapse, said a high-rise building collapsed near Musliu Junction in Ikoyi, and that LASEMA is on the case.
“Some of them gathered around the muster point in the building when it collapsed.
“Rescue operations have intensified, but with caution, to ensure that victims who are still alive would come out unhurt,” he said.

Also, the Director-General of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said, “Collapsed Building at Gerard Road, Ikoyi: The agency has activated its emergency response plan to the above incident.
“All first responders are en route to secure the scene while the heavy-duty equipment and life detection equipment have been dispatched.”
It is still unclear how many victims may be trapped under the rubble of the collapsed building.
