The House of Representatives Committee on Health Services on Sunday questioned the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control about the N1.2 billion proposed in its 2022 budget for the purchase of vehicles, information communications technology, and computer systems.
When NAFDAC Director-General Prof Mojisola Adeyeye appeared before the committee to defend the agency’s 2022 budget, the committee questioned the rationale for the massive amounts budgeted for vehicles and ICT equipment, as well as other capital projects.

Adeyeye told the committee that N2.9 billion was budgeted for the construction of NAFDAC’s offices, N614.3 billion for vehicle procurement, N666.2 billion for the provision of ICT and computer systems, N157.1 billion for plants and generators, N1.4 billion for laboratory equipment, N78 billion for office furniture and fittings, N73.9 billion for meals and hospitality, and N752.6 billion for local and international travels, among other things.
According to the budget breakdown, the agency plans to buy 80 computers (PCs) for N550,000 each and 50 laptops for N625,000 each, as well as computer accessories.
