The South-East Restoration Vanguard (S-ERV) has praised the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Farouk Yahaya, for launching ‘Operation Golden Dawn’ in the region.

The group said in a statement signed by its national president, Chief Chris Egbo, that the exercise is a welcome development, noting that Ndigbo will have a peaceful Yuletide this year.
Following an increase in tension, violence, and killings in the region, the Nigerian Army launched an operation in Igbariam, Anambra East Local Government Area, on Monday.

According to Col. Abdulkarim Usman, Commander of the 302 Artillery Regiment, the exercise, which is scheduled to take place from October 4 to December 23, 2021, will serve as a means of combating insecurity and fostering inter-agency cooperation.

In response, the South-East Restoration Vanguard stated that the COAS acted in good faith, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to ensuring peace and tranquility in all regions of the country.

As a result, the group assured the Army Chief of its unwavering support in his efforts to ensure a peaceful holiday season free of skirmishes, kidnappings, vandalism, arson, and other acts detrimental to socioeconomic advancement.

It did, however, call on all well-meaning Igbo sons and daughters to lend their support to the army’s operations in addressing the various security challenges in the South East region.
The Igbo organization acknowledged that all hands must be on deck to supplement the efforts of security agencies.

“The South East Restoration Vanguard commends the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Farouk Yahaya, on the return of the Nigerian Army’s quarterly operational exercises, with particular reference to the launch of Operation Golden Dawn in South-East Nigeria,” the statement says.

“We state unequivocally that, from all indications, Operation Golden Dawn is intended to ensure that socioeconomic activities in the South East improve and protect Igbo Sons and Daughters returning home for the holiday season.”

“This is a welcome development that harkens back to the era of the former Chief of Army Staff, Ambassador TY Buratai (Lt. Gen Rtd), when there were constant efforts through various operations to keep crime and criminalities at bay in the South East region and other parts of the country.”
