The meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Zoning Committee for National Offices ahead of the October 30-31 National Convention closed on Thursday in Enugu, with members of the committee adjourning until next week to finish their work.
The Chairman of the Committee and Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, addressed reporters following the closed-door meeting at Government House in Enugu, saying, “We had a fruitful discussion and we adjourned to conclude next week.”
Gov. Ugwuanyi stressed earlier in his welcome statement that the committee does not have the authority to zone political posts such as President or Vice President of Nigeria.
“Our Committee is strictly limited to the PDP National Executive Offices to be contested at the 2021 PDP National Convention scheduled for the end of October, 2021,” the governor explained, adding that “we have no mandate to zone political offices such as President or Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Gov. Ugwuanyi stated that the PDP is the most credible platform for delivering decent and accountable governance in Nigeria, and that the committee’s efforts will assist the party “reach the lofty principles and aims of our founding fathers.”
As a result, he urged committee members to be candid, open, and constructive in their suggestions and debates, as well as to be consistent with the scope of their mission.
“The membership and leadership of this committee have been carefully chosen because it is made up of very experienced, competent, and eminent Nigerians who are eager to reposition the PDP to play a role that is more than just that of the country’s main opposition political party, but also to build a party that offers alternative policy proposals and hope to Nigerians that there is still hope at the end of the tunnel.

The Governor of Benue State, Dr. Samuel Ortom, is the Deputy Chairman; the Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Barr. Mahdi Aliyu Mohammed, is the Secretary; former Senate Presidents, Senator Iyorchia Ayu and Senator Anyim Pius Anyim; and former Governors of Niger, Ekiti, Sokoto, Jigawa, and Adamawa states, Dr. Muazu Aliyu Babangi, are all present at the meeting.
Among them are Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, Rt. Hon. Sunday K. E Okoye, Chief Dan Orbih, Chief (Dr.) Ali Odefa, Amb. Mrs. Dr. Kema Chikwe, Chief Osita Chidoka, Barr. Chidi Lloyd, Senator Bassey Ewa Henshaw, Senator Emmanuel Nwaka, Engr.
