Former adviser to Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, has backed Governor Nyesom Wike on tax payments to the state government.
It was recalled that the Rivers State Government, through the State Attorney General, had taken the Federal Government agency to court to challenge the collection of VAT.
Wike had asked the Rivers State Internal Revenue Service to begin implementing the state’s value-added law 2021 as soon as possible.
He warned all corporations that if they don’t pay their taxes to the state government, they risk being sanctioned, including having their operations “sealed off.”

“Let me warn you that the Rivers State Government is in complete control of the state and will not allow any more attempts by the FIRS to sabotage or undermine our power to administer our tax and other relevant laws freely in our own state. Those who dabble with fire run the danger of burning their fingertips. Wike cautioned, “Enough with the pranks.”
Governor Wike stated that the law will remain in effect until the judgment is overturned by a higher court.
On his Twitter page, Dawisu stated that any northerner who opposes the state government’s implementation of VAT does not care about his people.
According to him, northern authorities need to wake up and figure out how to improve the region’s economic standing in the country.
“Any northerner opposing Wike over the VAT problem is not doing his region any favors. On this, I completely agree with Wike.

“It’s past time for us to go inward and do some soul searching about how to restore our country’s economic status.
Dawisu remarked, “This is a wake-up call to Arewa leaders and supporters.”
