Unknown gunmen from neighboring Ekiti State are said to have killed two police officers at a checkpoint in Kabba, the capital of Kogi State’s Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area.
According to an eyewitness, the incident occurred at the Origa checkpoint on the Kabba-Iyara road around 5 p.m. on Monday.
Suspected criminals in a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) opened fire on two police officers when they flagged them down for a routine check, according to witnesses.
Three other police officers who managed to flee suffered various injuries as the fleeing robbers shot sporadically to clear the way for their escape.
The officers involved were from the Kabba police B divisional headquarters, which was recently established.
Meanwhile, the robbers were said to be coming from the Ekiti axis and were likely on their way to Abuja via Kabba when the incident happened.
