The Rivers State Child Right Amendment Bill 2020 was signed into law by the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The renaming of produce house, water lines house, old Aba road, liberation stadium, Elelenwo road, and Judges quarters bill 2021 were also passed by the House.
The bill was part of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike’s three executive bills sent to the House in the last two weeks.
Before the Bills were passed, there was some debate among lawmakers about what the correct title of the bill should be.

The lawmaker representing Emohua state Constituency, Sam Ogeh, argued that the bill’s title be changed to reflect “naming and renaming of produce house, water lines house, old Aba road, liberation stadium, Elelenwo road, and Judges quarters bill 2021,” but the House leader, Martins Amaehule, countered the argument, stating that the “drafters of the executive bill” were correct in their conclusions.
Before voting on the bill, Speaker of the House Ikuyi Ibani stated that it will “go a long way in encouraging younger people to work and be recognized by the state.”
