A Federal High Court in Ikoyi has denied 11 political parties’ requests to halt the election of Chairmen and Councillors in Lagos State’s 57 Local Government Councils and Local Council Development Areas.
The decision was made by Honourable Justice Akintayo Aluko in a ruling delivered this morning, 23rd July 2021, in Suit No FHC/L/CS/596/2021, which was filed by the Alliance of Social Democrats and ten other political parties against the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) and the Lagos State Government.
Justice Aluko upheld the submissions made on behalf of the Lagos State Government by the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN). The Court declined to hear and decide the suit seeking to halt the election scheduled for tomorrow, 24th July 2021.

Not only did the Court decline jurisdiction, but it also vacated the Interim Order of Injunction previously issued in the matter on 12th July 2021.
In light of the foregoing, elections to the Lagos State’s 57 Local Government Councils and Local Council Development Areas will take place on Saturday, 24th July, 2021, as previously scheduled.
