Nigerian doctors have been accused of worsening Victor Osimhen’s shoulder injury while he was on international duty.
The Napoli striker dislocated his shoulder during the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone in Benin City on 13 November, which ended 4-4.
He was stretchered off and taken straight to the hospital while the match was still on and he left for Italy the following day with suggestions he might require surgery.
He missed the return tie against the Leone Stars and has not played for Napoli since.
Now, according to Tuttosport, Napoli medics are claiming that Nigerian doctors did more damage to Osimhen’s shoulder as they tried to put it back into place.
Football Italia claimed on Saturday that medical staff of the Super Eagles tried to pop the dislocated shoulder back into place on the field, before he returned to Italy for tests and a specialist consultation.
The shoulder dislocation has reportedly fully recovered, but Osimhen still cannot lift his arm properly, allegedly because the Nigerian doctors used an incorrect technique which inflamed a tendon in his shoulder.
Napoli are said to be unhappy with the situation as their record signing, who cost them around €80 million, will need more recovery time.
