A former political adviser to a former president Olusegun Obasanjo, Akin Osuntokun, has said that the former president fully supports the Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso ticket for the 2027 presidency.
Osuntokun, who was speaking in an interview on Arise News on Sunday, claimed that Obasanjo is the main sponsor of the Obi/Kwankwaso ticket.
According to reports, the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso is his running mate.
“There is no basis for insinuating that Obasanjo is backing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid as the former president is critical of the Tinubu administration,” Osuntokun said.
Osuntokun, the Director-General of Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, said it was Obasanjo that brought the former Anambra State Governor and Kwankwaso together for the 2027 polls.

He said Obasanjo had earlier wanted the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket but things did not work out.
“I don’t think it is right to say what Obasanjo said in his letter to Osoba is an attempt to give advantage to Tinubu. Obasanjo criticizes the Tinubu administration. The only ticket Obasanjo is backing is the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket and it is glaringly obvious.
Obasanjo is opposed to Tinubu. If you say Obasanjo is supporting any ticket, it is Peter Obi and Kwankwaso, He is actually the chief sponsor of that ticket. So how do you then rationalize, it is conspicuously obvious, that he is supporting Obi and Kwankwaso? “So how then do you explain working for Tinubu or insinuating him working for Tinubu”, Osuntokun said.
