The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has directed a shoot-at-sight on anyone with illegal firearm across the country.
Disu issued the directive at a stakeholders meeting held at the Government House in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, on Friday
“President Bola Tinubu has ordered that insecurity in Benue must stop, and only authorised security personnel can carry firearms.”
“The days of passive policing are over,” he added.
“You cannot go about freely with arms as if there is no law and order in this country. I’m not big on these sorts of things.

“We’ve given them direction. We have a force of order 237. Officers have been told that they don’t need to wait for any superior order. They know where to put their guns.
We are sick of losing our men. We are tired of policemen, soldiers and other security agencies dying anyhow.
“They have orders to shoot on sight. They’ve been trained to do whatever it takes. “But we cannot succeed without the cooperation of all of you,” the IGP said.
