Road Crash Claims Lives of Five Nursing Students on Ilorin-Ogbomoso Highway

Six people perished in a deadly car accident on Tuesday along the Kwara axis of the Ilorin-Ogbomoso expressway, including five final-year nursing students and a pregnant mother.

According to reports, the disaster happened in Kwara State’s Ote region, leaving the victims’ families and coworkers in sadness, especially since the students were reportedly en route to take their second semester exams.

A number of the victims were reported dead at the scene of the collision, while others died from their injuries at an unnamed hospital after being sent there for emergency care.

According to reports, the impact caused significant traffic congestion along the busy roadway, even if specifics of the vehicles involved and the crash’s immediate cause were still unclear at the time of publication.

The deceased students were identified as 500-level undergraduates enrolled in a Bachelor of Nursing Science program at a higher education school in Oyo State that offered open and distance learning.

At the time of the unfortunate tragedy, they were apparently on their way to take their second semester tests.

The students were nearing the end of their program, and colleagues called the loss “heartbreaking and painful.” The tragedy has left their academic community in mourning.

Federal route Safety Corps (FRSC) Kwara State Commandant Rosemary Alo confirmed the accident, stating that it happened at the Kwara end of the Ilorin-Ogbomoso route, specifically in the Ote region.

“The Kwara State Command and our staff are working together to restore normal traffic flow on the highway,” she stated.

However, she did not reveal the number of automobiles involved or the accident’s suspected cause right away.
