Tinubu Calls for National Unity, Inclusive Leadership During Iftar With Governors

At the State House in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu hosted State Governors for a Ramadan Iftar on Monday, emphasizing the importance of inclusive governance and togetherness.

Governors, deputy governors, and other high-ranking government officials gathered for the yearly occasion to break the fast.

Cabinet members, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, and President Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff, were also present.

Tinubu thanked God for allowing them to live through another Ramadan while speaking to the crowd.

“Being with you again this year is a joy and a great honor,” he remarked.

The president said that the Christian fasting time and the Ramadan fast fell on the same day.

He remarked, “You understand what it means: self-control, selflessness, faith, fortitude, and love for one another.”

Tinubu called on the governors to practice inclusive leadership, tolerance, and togetherness.

“Let the children breathe too,” he counseled, at this time of harmony, solidarity, and sacrifice.

He gave the governors credit for the advancements made in their states.

“I’ve witnessed significant advancements in the United States. “You have my utmost admiration,” the president remarked.

They were reassured by Tinubu that the nation was overcoming its economic difficulties.

“The dark tunnel of uncertainty is now behind us. For Nigeria, the best is still to come,” he stated.

He reaffirmed his dedication to bolstering security and encouraging grassroots development.

The president called on leaders to spread opportunity and support the underprivileged.

Imo Governor Hope Uzodinma told reporters that the Iftar was an interfaith event.

The timing of the Muslim and Christian fasts is roughly every 33 years. “It promotes unity,” he stated.

According to Uzodinma, the governors and the president were collaborating for the sake of the country.

Tinubu hosts political figures during the holy month of Ramadan as part of their yearly tradition, which includes the Iftar. The APC praises the LGA congresses in Rivers for their peaceful behavior.

The Local Government Area (LGA) Delegates Election was conducted successfully in all 23 LGAs in Rivers State, according to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Due to the State House of Assembly bye-elections for Ahoada East Constituency II and Khana Constituency II seats, which were won by APC candidates Hon. Ukalipke Napoleon and Hon. Mrs. Henrietta Loolo on the same day, the Party’s LGA Congress, which was scheduled for Monday, February 23, 2026, throughout the state, was postponed from Saturday.

The goal of the APC’s LGA Delegates Election was to strengthen the party’s internal unity and grassroots mobilization in order to better prepare for its national convention and upcoming elections in Rivers State.

Shortly after overseeing the poll in Ikwerre LGA, Chief Tony Okocha, the State’s APC Chairman, characterized the process as transparent, orderly, and peaceful.

Okocha commended the party’s members and supporters for their enormous turnout and dedication to internal democracy.

Along with members of the LGA Delegates Election Committee, the chairman of the Rivers APC expressed satisfaction with the exercise and gave the Ikwerre leadership and members credit for their “orderly and peaceful” participation.

He assured party supporters that the APC is still “the party to beat in Nigeria,” pointing to recent bye-election wins in Rivers State, Kano, and the Federal Capital Territory as proof of rising popular trust.

“Our party’s strength and preparedness for future electoral battles are demonstrated by the peaceful atmosphere that characterized the exercise.”

The successful delegate election, according to Okocha, is a major step toward strengthening the APC’s internal organizational framework in advance of the next elections.

While Samuel Nwanosike, the chairman of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA), addressed on behalf of the elected delegates and pledged ongoing loyalty and attention to the party’s mission, the chairman of the Congress Committee also appreciated the peaceful atmosphere.

Hon. Charles Wobodo, the executive chairman of Ikwerre LGA, praised the election’s open conduct and reaffirmed his dedication to the party’s advancement in the region.

According to our correspondent, men from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were present to oversee the exercise.

In order to guarantee a credible and seamless exercise, security is also necessary.
