After the Nkwo Nnewi Spare Parts Market disobeyed a government directive to start opening on Mondays, Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo closed it for a week.
Chief Evarist Uba, Special Advisor to the Governor on Trade and Markets, closed the market on the governor’s behalf, according to a news statement issued by Dr. Law Mefor, the Anambra State Commissioner for Information.
Just three weeks have passed since Soludo visited Onitsha Main Market and closed it for not being open on Mondays.
The general public is therefore notified that the New Auto Spare Parts Associiation (NASPA) Market in Nkwo Nnewi is closed for operations, he said.
“The market was closed as a result of poor adherence to Mr. Governor Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s directive to terminate Monday sit-at-homes in Anambra State.
The Special Advisor to the Governor on Trade and Markets, Chief Evarist Uba, along with the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, the Special Advisor to the Governor on Security, AVM Ben Chiobi (Rtd), and Nnewi Mayor, Hon., gave the order to close the market on behalf of the governor. “As a result, the market, which has been closed since midnight on Monday, February 23, 2026, will reopen on Monday, March 2, 2026.”
He cautioned that in order to prevent problems with law enforcement, traders and consumers are encouraged to stay away from the market until Monday of next week.
When the market reopens on Monday of next week, he warned, if compliance is not significant, the market might be longer closed.
