Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi has explained why he donated ₦20 million to the University of Calabar School of Dentistry.
He stated that he made the donation to lessen the load on pupils.
Obi complained that the government had ignored what he regarded as children’ most fundamental educational demands, while political figures lived in luxury.
Speaking at Calabar Airport, the former governor of Anambra State stated, “The situation at UNICAL is a direct reflection of failed leadership.” We cannot continue to let our children bear the brunt of our political mistakes.

“We spend millions on luxury for political office holders, while young Nigerians pursuing an education lack the most basic equipment. It shouldn’t be like this.”
According to Obi, the scenario at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Calabar, was a clear example of leadership failure in Nigeria’s education system. He stated that the ₦20 million grant would help upgrade vital infrastructure in the faculty.
“This token is to help procure 15 additional dental chairs, a key requirement set by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria for expanding the faculty’s student intake,” stated the administrator.
He encouraged the authorities to examine the condition of the afflicted kids, whose academic development had been significantly impeded due to poor facilities.
Obi urged other well-meaning Nigerians and leaders to support institutions such as UNICAL, stating that the country’s future rests on how effectively its population are educated and empowered.
