Diogo Jota, a forward for Liverpool, lost his life in a Spanish vehicle accident.
The 28-year-old was reportedly riding in the car with his brother, Andre.
On the A-52 in the province of Zamora, the vehicle reportedly veered off the road.
Jota tragically died just two weeks after he married Rute Cardoso, his longtime girlfriend, in Porto.
During Arne Slot’s debut season, the forward was a member of the Liverpool team that won the Premier League title in May.
Police have acknowledged that they are looking into what caused the event. They said no additional vehicles were engaged.
