The African Democratic Congress’s (ADC) intended debut as a unifying political platform for Nigeria’s opposition has been derailed.
On Wednesday, hours before the show began, the location where the event was scheduled to take place abruptly canceled a fully paid reservation.
However, the hotel would no longer host the event because of an unidentified “internal compliance matter,” the organizers were notified Wednesday morning.
A screenshot of the hotel’s message was posted on the Instagram page of Dele Momodu, a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The text said, “Dear Respected Customer, Once again, we are grateful that you choose the Wells Carlton Hotel and Apartments.
Unfortunately, we must notify you that we will not be able to host your planned event owing to an internal compliance issue that we recently discovered.

“We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and acknowledge that the event is less than 24 hours away.”
Opposition leaders have reacted sharply to the abrupt cancelation, with Momodu accusing political meddling.
“The coalition’s reservation of a venue for the unveiling of the adopted party, ADC, was abruptly and unilaterally canceled by the hotel management because of what insiders described as fear of retaliation from APC operatives, demonstrating the ongoing intimidation of opposition by a nervous government.”
The opposition forces are ready to fiercely oppose the ruling party, and Momodu said that this would not stop them.
