‘I Was Betrayed by Peter Obi’ — Kenneth Okonkwo Laments

Amidst internal party strife, veteran actor Kenneth Okonkwo has accused former presidential contender Peter Obi of betraying him.

In a widely shared interview with Symfoni, Kenneth made this claim.

Once a representative for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, Okonkwo formally left the party in February 2025.

He said that Obi disregarded his counsel and returned to the side of the party’s beleaguered Julius Abure-led faction.

Kenneth said that LP executives had deceived Obi by claiming that they were recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.

“Any politician who knows what he’s doing cannot be betrayed by another,” he stated.

“I can categorically state that Peter Obi betrayed me, if anyone has ever betrayed another.

“The LP members led by Julius Abure falsely claimed that they had been accepted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, so Obi returned to them covertly. However, I told him: ‘Sir, you have made a public statement on integrity, and even if INEC has accepted them, that is not a criterion for you to go back and start dealing with them because they have shown that they are not democratic. If you return to them, they will ruin your political career and all of your integrity-related statements will be lost.
