June 12: Bwala Hits Out at Peter Obi — ‘You Weren’t Part of the Fight for Democracy’

Daniel Bwala, the presidential spokesperson, has criticized Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, for his recent comments about the Bola Tinubu government.
Inferring that Obi should not remark on issues pertaining to June 12, 1993, Bwala, President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, feels the former governor of Anambra State was never involved in the fight for democracy.
He asserted that Obi had no prior history of participation in the conflict because he was trading overseas at the time.

Obi called on Tinubu to emulate previous presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Umaru Yar’Adua during the commemoration of Democracy Day.

Obi suggested that the president follow former President Yar’Adua’s example of admitting that the methods he used to gain power were not perfect.
He went on to say that the president need to follow Jonathan’s example, who maintained Nigeria’s democracy by accepting loss.

Supporters of Peter Obi have repeatedly asserted that the 2023 presidential election was tainted by anomalies and that the results shouldn’t have been accepted.

Obi further said that Bola Tinubu’s government does not practice democracy.

The former governor should not speak on anything concerning Nigeria’s democratic struggle, Bwala stated in a post via 𝕏 on Friday night.

“Please, could someone please confirm to me whether it is true that on June 12, 1993, and weeks later, @PeterObi Peter Gregory Obi was in Malaysia or somewhere in Asia doing buying and selling trading business?” Bwala asked.

“I looked online to see if he was involved in the fight for democracy, but I couldn’t find any connection, ohh.”
