Babachir Lawal, the former secretary to the government of the federation, has voiced his regret that the country is suffering as a result of the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) Muslim-Muslim ticket.
During an interview with Arise News, Lawal claimed that the ruling party’s ticket had opened a Pandora’s box.
It would be hard for Nigerians to fight against a Christian-Christian presidential ticket in the future, he said.
Lawal stated, “When the leader chooses to do evil, the society suffers,” implying that the country is currently suffering as a result of the Muslim-Muslim ticket.

“It’s opened a Pandora box,” he continued. Nigerians will have a very hard time opposing someone who runs on a Christian-Christian ticket now that a precedent has been established. My grievances with the precedent sprang not only from religious concerns but also from a feeling of equity. In all we undertake, equity is required. If we don’t, we experience the same repercussions as we do now since we have discriminated against the sick members of society and failed to demonstrate equity. That is, I do think, a contributing factor in the punishment we are receiving.
Society is negatively impacted when the leader chooses to act evilly. We are where we are now in part because of that.
“I never forget that our regional balances are just as important as the ticket itself, especially when it comes to Muslim-Muslim or Christian-Christian relationships. People cannot devote their energies to efforts to develop and unite the nation until they have a sense of belonging.
