According to former Abia State Commissioner for Trade and Investment John Okiyi Kalu, Governor Alex Otti would rather engage in propaganda than lead.
According to reports, Okiyi Kalu, the former governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s commissioner, made this statement in response to Governor Otti’s interview last week.
Kalu refuted the claim that Ikpeazu’s government left nothing in the state’s treasury in an interview with Arise News on Monday.

He claimed that before leaving government, Ikpeazu left ₦4 billion in cash and nearly cash assets for the next administration.

“As you may have heard, Governor Alex Otti received nearly N4 billion in cash, according to KPMG reports commissioned by his administration. This is a process review document. He was also left with near-cash instructions. We also abandoned other assets since Okezie Ikpeazu likes to talk about liability and wasn’t quite pressured, even though his administration also won N24 billion in stamp taxes. He ought to be discussing assets if you have come to the public forum to discuss liability.

“You claimed there was nothing left in the coffers despite the fact that Otti inherited a $60 million round fund, $225 million African Development Fund, N24 billion in stamp duties owed to Abia State, and roughly N4 billion in cash in Union Bank,” he stated.

Kalu charged that Governor Otti’s knowledge of project planning and state finances was inadequate.

“I like that interview because it revealed a lot of information. For the first time in my life, I witnessed a state governor who was unable to discuss the monthly IGR earnings of the state.

For the first time, I observed a governor who raised concerns about an airport project but was unaware of the costs to the state’s citizens or the federal government’s investment in the project, despite the project having budgetary approval. That reflects Dr. Alex Otti’s character; he is very poor on content and very high on propaganda,” he said.

“He told you that’s the first floor of the new Government House that was commissioned, that he visited that place and it was fantastic,” he continued, referring to the unfinished government house. Permit me to acknowledge for a moment that the structure was not finished.

Ikpeazu constructed 213 roads, hospitals, and street lights throughout the state, he continued.

“There was no excellent road when he came to power. Ikpeazu constructed all of the nice roads, placed cameras, and constructed schools and streetlights, he said.
