Tears Flowed After Being Mocked for Not Being Married – Funke Akindele

Nigerian box office queen Funke Akindele has described how her marriage to music executive Abdurasheed Bello, better known by his stage as JJC Skillz, ended in divorce and how she was ridiculed for not having a spouse.
During the first live episode of the “WithChude” podcast, the movie star reportedly stated that she has always known that therapy is important but has never sought help out of concern that her private life will be shared publicly.
Funke said she is a strong woman, but she turned to a therapist after crying over a video of someone making fun of her for not having a partner.

She also suggested that folks talk to others and seek therapy.

“I knew from the beginning that therapy is important, but I never gave in to it,” she remarked. I would say something like, “I don’t want anyone to hear about me.” They will go and share the main points. But I was acting strong, and I was dying in silence. They threw more at me at work, at home, from family, and in society every time I displayed strength. For many others, you serve as an inspiration. I’m a really strong individual. My God, I possess that strength. Yes, I would keep my face firmly in place. You know, the politics, the backlash, the insults, my prayer partner, everything, when Mum died away.

“I watched one particular video. They made fun of me by claiming that I was single. Ladies dancing and making fun of me. I cried. I wept uncontrollably and repeatedly. Then I reminded myself that you should talk to someone about this. You can’t keep doing this. You realize you have to speak up?

And I made contact and began talking. I was feeling better. I shared with my therapist things I couldn’t share with others. I’m better now. Therefore, I want to give you all some advice: speaking up is crucial. Yes.
