Industry insiders have verified that MultiChoice plans to raise the monthly membership fees for its DStv and GOtv packages. The well-liked Compact bouquet would go from ₦15,700 to ₦19,000.
Nearly a year has passed since the company’s previous price review, and this move follows the ongoing naira depreciation, growing inflation, and rising energy prices.
Changes in Prices for Different Bouquets
A large percentage of MultiChoice’s user base consists of DStv Compact, Access, and Family bundle subscribers, all of whom will be impacted by the changes.
Cost of DStv Compact: ₦15,700.
Family DSTV: ₦9,300 → ₦11,000
From ₦5,100 to ₦6,000 for DStv access
The precise numbers have not yet been finalized, but DStv Premium and Compact+ are also expected to increase.
The Value and Plus packages for GOtv customers will also undergo modifications:
GOtv worth ₦3,600 less ₦3,900
Netflix Plus: ₦4,850 → 5,800
Economic Factors Driving Price Increases
An insider in the sector who talked to TheCable blamed the pricing changes on the Federal Government’s continuous economic reforms, which include raising electricity rates, removing fuel subsidies, and floating the Naira.
Prices for products and services have nearly doubled since the Federal Government started its economic reforms in 2023. As of December 2024, inflation is at 34.80%, forcing businesses to make pricing adjustments—some up to three times last year—according to an industry insider.
