Omoyele Sowore, a former African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, has gone up against members of the Nigeria Police Force and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for preventing him from entering the Federal High Court’s grounds.
Speaking on Monday, Sowore claimed in a video posted on X that uniformed security personnel, including the police, civil defense, and Department of State Security (DSS) Services, had taken control of the Nigerian legal system.
Refusing to be obstructed by any of the officers, Sowore cautioned that he is not former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello, who is currently facing charges of financial misappropriation from the commission.
He asserted that the security guards had unlawfully occupied the court’s grounds by bringing Yahaya Bello, a “thief,” there.
The former governor reported himself to the EFCC office in Abuja, which is how the authorities were able to jail Bello. He also criticized the authorities for not arresting Bello when he was declared wanted.
Sowore replied, “Why are you yelling at me?” in the video. Do I have Yahaya Bello’s appearance? In court, I have business. Neither the EFCC nor the police need to clear me because none of you are a court officer.
This is a Federal High Court; I will speak with a court official if you bring one. They are still pestering us, and the EFCC took me to court. It is not your place to stand before the high court. Since you are not my attorney, you have no right to be aware of my situation.
