KWASU Clears Air on JAMB Ban, Says Law Students Not Affected

Malete’s Kwara State University (KWASU) has stated that its present law students are unaffected by the recent one-year ban on admittance to the university’s legal department.

In a statement released Thursday in Ilorin, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, Acting Director, University Relations, revealed this.

The Council for Legal Education (CLE) decided to allow KWASU to start a law program in 2018 with just the National Universities Commission’s (NUC) consent, which led to the prohibition, according to Dr. Aliyu.

According to her, KWASU is currently fully accredited by the CLE and the NUC to offer two undergraduate law programs: Common Law and Common and Islamic Law.

According to management, students enrolled in programs at the University’s Faculty of Law are unaffected in any manner by the one-year restriction.

“KWASU respects all regulatory bodies and will abide by the CLE consequences by not admitting students to the two law schools in the upcoming 2025–2026 admissions session.

Since all of KWASU’s programs have the necessary accreditations, prospective students may apply to other equally great programs offered by the university, according to Dr. Aliyu.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) declared on Wednesday that it would no longer be accepting applications for admission to KWASU’s law program and those of seven other universities.

According to reports, this came after the CLE suspended the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) program at the impacted colleges for the 2025–2026 academic year.

Consequently, JAMB said that it will not grant admission to any applicants wishing to enroll in the Law program at the aforementioned universities for the 2025–2026 academic year.
