Turkish team Galatasaray made a large €65 million offer for their gifted Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen, but Italian powerhouse Napoli rejected it.
Following Osimhen’s stellar loan stint with the team, Galatasaray made the bid in an attempt to permanently sign him.
The Turkish team wanted to trigger Osimhen’s loan deal, according to the Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, but their offer was not enough to activate the striker’s €75 million release clause.
The 26-year-old did not have the chance to make the move permanent; instead, he joined Galatasaray on loan until the conclusion of the season.
However, because of a particular compensation clause in the loan arrangement, Galatasaray has special negotiating leverage.
This provision effectively raises Osimhen’s release clause to €81 million for possible bidders this winter by stating that Galatasaray would be entitled to a €6 million compensation money from Napoli if he were to transfer to another club during the January transfer window.
Therefore, under the present agreement, other teams will have to wait until the summer to activate the same release clause, while Galatasaray is the only team able to sign the striker for the initial €75 million during this month.

When Osimhen signed a new deal with Napoli last summer, his release clause—which had originally been set at an incredible €130 million—was changed to allow him to travel on loan to Galatasaray.
The Nigerian international has been in outstanding form since joining the Turkish league leaders, tallying five assists and 16 goals in just 20 games. Galatasaray has been able to hold onto their top spot in the Süper Lig thanks in large part to his contributions.
“I will not leave in January; I am at Galatasaray until the end of the season,” Osimhen said in a recent statement, reinforcing his dedication to the team.
“I am open to discussions if Galatasaray and Napoli approach me, but I am not aware of what they are talking about regarding future arrangements.”
