ADC Vows to Stop Serving as Political Special Purpose Vehicle

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) said yesterday that it will no longer be used as a unique political vehicle.

Speaking before the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, ADC national chairman Dr. Ralphs Okey Nwosu stated that politicians will no longer use and dump it.

A special purpose vehicle, as used in Nigerian politics, is a different political party that candidates use to run for office after losing or leaving their first party.

However, Nwosu revealed that the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) has been able to settle disagreements and bring members together behind a single political platform, despite his criticism of Nigerian politicians’ lack of political ideology.

Nwosu pointed out that the ADC would have been involved in Nigerian elections for 20 years by 2027.

“We need to get it right after 20 years. We need to go forward, therefore if I upset you, now is the moment to forgive.

“Large coalitions like the one we are forming with PRP are necessary. I want us to arrive with a loving heart. “Our party will be the most popular party in Nigeria by 2025,” he promised.

Since its founding in 2006, ADC has run presidential candidates. However, following the elections, the candidates consistently leave the party.

A polarized party resulted from the same pattern in the most recent 2023 election.

But according to Nwosu, the party has started the process of rebuilding and has removed the ban imposed on certain members.

He claimed that the NEC meeting signaled a fresh start, particularly during the season of Christmas, when people are supposed to express their affection for one another.

He added that peace has returned to ADC with INEC’s ADR and that Nigeria must begin developing institutions that will endure.

Why do we only elect a small number of people to political office? He questioned, “Why can’t we have the majority in the house?”

According to Nwosu, “some of us will end up working in the villa; some of you will be elected into offices,” and ADC would rise to the top of the political rankings in the nation. The possibilities will be endless once we accomplish this.

The meeting on the verification exercise was attended by INEC officials as well.
