Customers of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) can report issues with cash withdrawals at automated teller machines (ATMs) or over the counter by contacting specific contacts.

The governor of the CBN, Olayemi Cardoso, encouraged bank customers to report any difficulties with withdrawals by calling the numbers provided on November 29.

Before the instruction, the financial authority had threatened to penalize banks if they did not prioritize cash disbursements through ATMs.

However, CBN offered specific lines to assist in resolving customers’ issues in a circular on Tuesday that was co-signed by its acting director of currency operations, Solaja Olayemi, and its acting director of branch operations, Isa-Olatinwo Aisha.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) stated, “Please refer to the various engagements and interventions from the CBN on the above subject aimed at addressing efficient and optimal currency circulation in the economy.”

“We would like to call your attention to the following guidelines and directions as part of these ongoing efforts:

“Deposit Money Banks (DMBs): The CBN will step up its monitoring responsibilities to enforce this instruction and guarantee compliance, and DMBs are instructed to ensure effective cash disbursement to customers over-the-counter (OTC) and through ATMs.

“General Public Reporting: Individuals who are unable to get cash at DMBs over-the-counter or through ATMs are urged to report these incidents using the format and channels listed below.

“This will further improve currency circulation and help CBN address issues impeding cash availability.”

According to the CBN, impacted clients must provide the necessary information, including “account name/name of the DMB/amount /time and date of Incident(s), among other details, via the following dedicated channels,” in order to report a bank branch or ATM that is not disbursing cash.

The apex bank stated, “Phone Call: Designated phone number(s) of the CBN branch in the state where the incident(s) occurred.”

“Send an email about the incident to the state’s designated email address, or send an email about the incident itself.”
