Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Oredo local government area of Edo State switched to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday.
The defectors who were from Ward 1 of Oredo LGA were led by Sidney Egede, an APC chieftain in the area.
They were received into PDP by the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwole Uzzi.
Uzzi commended the defectors for making the bold decision to dump the APC for PDP ahead of the September 21 governorship election in the state.
According to him, the defection will further boost the chances of the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, in the election.
The commissioner described Ighodalo and his running mate, Osarodion Ogie, as the most qualified candidates to succeed Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Uzzi urged the people of Oredo to reciprocate Obaseki’s magnanimity of appointing two persons from the ward into his cabinet.
He said: “Those tagging Governor Obaseki as ignorant and bereft of ideas are the ones bereft of ideas. We grew together in this ward.
“While Governor Obaseki grew up in the College area, I grew up in the Jemide area. Those who call the governor a Lagos boy do not know what they are saying.”
On his part, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, said the political dominance of APC in the ward has ended.
Osagie said Egede and other’s defection to PDP was a major boost to the party in the locality.
