Lagos community hails LASBCA’s mediation in Royal Estate dispute

The residents and stakeholders of Royal Estate, Phase 1, Isheri-Olofin, Lagos State, have expressed their gratitude to the General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, Arc. Gbolahan Oki, for his prompt mediation in the recent dispute that occurred within the estate.

In a statement, on Tuesday, signed by the Chairman of the estate, Williams Adeyemi, the community thanked Oki for his intervention, which led to a satisfactory resolution of the issues.

The According reported that the Lagos State Building Control Agency had been embroiled in controversy over its methods of enforcing building regulations in the state.

The agency was accused of using excessive force and brutality in its dealings with residents and property owners, leading to allegations of human rights violations. This has raised concerns about the agency’s approach to its mandate and the impact it has on the people it is supposed to serve.

The latest incident involving LASBCA occurred on July 1, 2024, at Royal Estate, Phase 1 in Alimosho Local Government, Isheri-Olofin, Lagos, where residents alleged that the agency’s officials used brutal force to demolish alleged illegal structures in the estate.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for an investigation into the agency’s actions and a review of its methods.

However, in the statement, the residents described Oki’s mediation as “a matter of urgency” and praised his efforts in ensuring that the dispute was resolved amicably.

“We want to say a very big thank you to the General Manager of LASBCA, Arc. Gbolahan Oki, for his urgent intervention in the reported incidents that occurred within our estate.

“His mediation ensured a satisfactory resolution, and we are grateful for his efforts,” Adeyemi said.

He noted that the Royal Estate had always been a good corporate citizen and was proud to be associated with Lagos State, known for its laudable visions and aspirations.

“We emerged as the 1st runner-up during the last community day celebrated on December 14, 2023, and were presented with an 18-seater bus by Governor Babajide Sanwoolu. This achievement reflects our dedication, selflessness, and commitment to supporting the state’s visions and blueprints,” he said.

The chairman assured LASBCA that the estate would continue to collaborate with the agency to achieve its aims and objectives.

“We apologise for any inconveniences caused during the mediation process and assure the General Manager of our highest regards.”

The successful mediation has brought relief to the residents of the Royal Estate, who can now focus on their daily lives without the burden of the dispute.
