Group kick’s against calls for military intervention

A group, the Nigeria Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Council, has kicked against calls for military intervention in the country.
The group, after an emergency meeting in Kano on Tuesday, also condemned those waving the Russian flag during the ongoing protests.
Vice President of the Group, Balarabe Rufai, who addressed journalists, said, “We back the government’s position that raising the Russian flag is nothing but a treasonable offence.
“The ongoing protests as we all have witnessed have been characterized by looting and destruction of public and private properties.
“Above all, the most unfortunate event was the flying of the Russian flag which is undemocratic, unconstitutional and unpatriotic.
“Our country is blessed with vast natural resources, a vibrant youth population, and the potential to become the second-largest economy in the world by 2050.
“By the same year Nigeria will also be the third largest in population following India and China. With these potentialities and inevitable destiny for greatness Nigeria has become the envy of the world.
“Yet, despite these attributes, we face significant challenges that demand urgent attention and action.”
