Parents, teachers must collaborate to raise good citizens

A University Don, Professor Azeezat Amoloye-Adebayo has advised parents and teachers to work together to produce good citizens for the country.

Amoloye-Adebayo, a professor of Law at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State gave the advice during the graduation and prize-giving day of students of Explore Academy, Stadium Road, Ilorin held on Saturday.

Speaking on the theme “Education and the Society”, the educator said that parents are the first teachers of their children adding that both the father and the mother should work together to make their children what they want them to become.

“The first school for the children is the home and the first teacher is the parents (mother and father) who should work together to make the children what they want them to be in life.

“Education is a process of training children on how they will be useful to society and teachers build on what the children have learned from their parents in their homes.

“Parents and Teachers should work together, parents should work with the school to produce good citizens for the Society while both the parents and the teachers should ensure that children behave well in the Society”, the lecturer said.

The Commissioner for Solid Mineral in Kwara state, Dr Afeez Alabi also urged parents to guide their wards on the career that they want them to pursue.

The proprietor of the school, Adenike Olumo, expressed appreciation to parents and Teachers for their contributions to the rapid development of the school within it short time of its existence.

She said the school has inculcated in the pupils the diverse culture of the country including Hausa, Ibo and Yoruba as well as the French culture adding that the French language is being taught in the school as a foreign language.

The event featured various cultural displays by the students of the school.
