The protest against economic hardship and hunger in Nyanya, Abuja, on Thursday, August 1, descended into violence when some individuals hijacked the demonstration, leading to clashes with the Nigerian Army.

The soldiers, deployed to restore order, faced resistance from the aggressive protesters. The scene quickly turned chaotic, with many people fleeing for safety.
Amid the unrest, some protesters were heard shouting “Bamayi” (meaning “We are no longer interested”). It remains unclear whether these individuals were part of the original protest group or had infiltrated with different motives.
