Presidency affirms Nigerians’ right to peaceful protest

The presidency has reiterated that citizens have the right to peaceful protests.
The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Ajuri Ngelale, made the clarification during a TVC programme, Politics on Sunday with Femi Akande.
.
He said President Bola Tinubu‘s administration is committed to serving the people, not dominating them.
He was reacting to concerns about the government’s stance on planned protests slated for August 1-10.

Ngelale said: “Let me be clear: we are not in office to dominate our people; we are here to serve them.” He emphasized that no organ of the administration has the authority to prevent Nigerians from exercising their right to peaceful protest.
The presidential aide acknowledged fears of potential hijack of the protests, similar to the #EndSARS movement in 2020, but reassured citizens that the administration is committed to protecting their rights.
Ngelale also highlighted President Tinubu’s dedication to putting Nigeria on a sound economic footing despite inheriting liabilities from the previous administration.
