Court orders final forfeiture of properties linked to ex-NAPL boss

Justice Chukujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court, Lagos, on Wednesday, ordered the final forfeiture of five properties linked to a former Managing Director of Nigerian Army Properties Limited (NAPL), Major-Gen. Umaru Mohammed to the Federal Government.
The judge gave the order following a motion by the lawyer to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), A.O. Mohammed.
Justice Aneke on March 4 ordered the interim forfeiture of the properties and directed the commission to publish an order in a national newspaper for any interested person to show cause why they should not be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.

The EFCC had in its brief of argument told the court that the properties located in Lagos were fraudulently misappropriated and the proceeds of the sale diverted for personal use by the army officer.
The properties are No.8b, Bedwell Road, Ikoyi; No.3, Force Road, Ikoyi, Lagos; No.14, Glover Road, Ikoyi, Lagos; No.6, Marina, Ikoyi, Lagos and No. 28, Point Road, Apapa, Lagos.
In Wednesday’s proceeding, Mohammed said the EFCC had complied with the order of the court on the properties.
He urged the court to order the final forfeiture of the properties to the government.
