91 bag first class as Ekiti varsity honours Adeboye, Adelusi-Adeluyi, others

Ninety-one graduating students of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti bagged first-class degrees while 3,262 others got second-class upper division.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Edward Olanipekun, said that 6,411 got second class lower division while 747 got third class and the remaining four of the 10,515 degree graduands had pass.

Olanipekun disclosed this on Monday at a press conference heralding the 28th convocation of the institution.

He said a total of 10,894 graduates, comprising 224 diplomas and 155 from post-graduate college, would graduate on the occasion.

He said, “The total number of first-class is 91, total number of second class upper division is 3262, total number of second class lower division is 6411, total number of third class is 747 and total number of pass is four.

“In addition, four distinguished personalities are to be conferred with honorary doctorates. They are the General Overseer, the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye (Doctor of Science, honoris causa); and former Governor of Ekiti State, Niyi Adebayo (Doctor of Laws, honoris causa).”

The VC listed others as an oil magnate, Princess Folorunsho Alakija (Doctor of Business Administration, honoris causa); and an accomplished pharmacist, Prince Julius Adelusi- Adeluyi (Doctor of Laws, honoris causa).

Olanipekun, who will be leaving office in August on completion of his tenure, listed his achievements to include securing approval for 16 new academic programmes, including BSc Mass Communication, BSc International Relations, PhD Surgery, PhD Medicine, and others.

He commended the Federal Government for the various intervention funds released to the university, such as TETFUND and NEEDS Assessment funds, which have been impactful in transforming the campus leading to the completion of 12 TETFund-sponsored projects, 10 Needs Assessment-sponsored projects among others.

He said, “Our university, on Friday, March 15, 2024, signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of the West of England, Bristol (UK) for the purpose of collaboration in the area of transnational education and academic exchange programmes. This epoch making ceremony took place virtually.”

The VC took pride in EKSU Alumni Association led by Dipo Bamisaye for tremendous assistance to the university, adding, “The tardiness previously experienced on issuance of academic transcripts in the university has now become a thing of the past. All backlogs of academic transcripts have been cleared.

“The Alumni Association’s donation of some relevant equipment, coupled with the decision of the university to deploy competent personnel who can effectively handle these equipment, has facilitated the ease of processing and issuance of transcripts to our graduates,” he said.
