37 suspected Abuja Internet fraudsters to face trial

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has disclosed that 37 suspected Internet fraudsters arrested by its operatives in different parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of an investigation.

According to a statement made available on the Facebook page of the anti-graft agency on Sunday, the suspects were arrested on Wednesday after multiple raids on the Jahi, Dawaki, and Gwarimpa areas of the FCT.

The statement disclosed further that exhibits such as vehicles, laptops, and mobile phones, among others, were recovered from the suspects.

The statement read, “Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abuja Zonal Command, on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, arrested 37 suspected Internet fraudsters.

“They were arrested at the Jahi, Dawaki, and Gwarimpa axes of Abuja following actionable intelligence about their activities. Items recovered from the suspects include six vehicles, 20 laptops, 66 mobile phones, six international passports and one Apple wristwatch.

“They will be charged in court as soon as investigations are concluded.”

According Metro reported on Friday that the Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC arrested 48 suspected Internet fraudsters and a herbalist for offences bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretence in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.

A statement by the Head, Media and Publicity, EFCC, Dele Oyewale, made available to According Metro in Ilorin on Thursday said the suspects were arrested upon credible intelligence on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at various locations in Lokoja.

Similarly, 48 students of the Kwara State University were arrested by the EFCC on February 21, 2024, for alleged involvement in cybercrime and Internet fraud-related activities.

Oyewale, who disclosed that the suspects were arrested at their various hideouts after days of surveillance, added that they will be arraigned in court when investigations are concluded.

Items recovered from the suspects, according to the statement, included laptops and different brands of phones.
