30-year-old Ekiti man has been remanded for allegedly inserting iron into a lady’s private parts

On Friday, an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court ordered the remand of Gboyega Ogunlola, 30, in a detention center for allegedly raping a 27-year-old woman and inserting an iron rod into her private parts.

Ogunlola was charged with attempted murder and rape.

In her statement to the police, the victim claimed that the defendant drove her to Anambra State to check on her children, and that she slept off the ride.

She claims she later ended up in Ogunlola’s room, where he allegedly raped her and inserted an iron rod into her private parts, resulting in her hospitalization.

The defendant also allegedly stole the victim’s phone and N260,000 meant for her children’s school fees, according to the victim.

“The defendant was reasonably suspected of committing the offences of rape, attempted murder, and stealing from a 27-year-old woman in Iworoko Ekiti on September 5, 2021,” police prosecutor Inspector Olubu Apata said.

“The offenses are punishable under sections 358, 320, and 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap C16 Laws of Ekiti State, 2012,” according to the statement.

The defendant was remanded in a correctional center in Ado Ekiti, pending legal advice, by the presiding Chief Magistrate, Saka Afunso, who granted the prosecutor’s request.

The case has been postponed until October 5, 2021.
