The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy national publicity secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, has said that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Nigerians are now engaged in a political battle ahead of the 2027 election as a result of the recent wave of party defections.
Abdullahi reportedly made the remarks on Wednesday while answering questions on the “Prime Time” program on Arise Television.
He emphasized that the party’s defections will not weaken the PDP’s resolve to reconstruct the nation, characterizing them as acts motivated by self-interest and avarice.
The governors elected on the PDP platform had no legitimate reason to leave the party, Abdullahi insisted, citing the resignation of Duoye Diri, the governor of Bayelsa State.
As we move closer to 2027, he stated, “It’s no longer about PDP and APC; it’s now APC against Nigerians.”
It’s only selfishness, greed, and avarice on the side of those departing because, as far as I and Nigerians are aware, there isn’t a strong enough reason for a governor to want to leave the party after serving out his second term, like in Bayelsa.
According to the PDP, it is a good thing to get rid of bad garbage. Before our convention next month, if we can eliminate these factors, we will be stronger and more equipped to free this nation from what we perceive to be an army of occupation posing as a democratic administration.
Additionally, the PDP spokesperson bemoaned the situation of the country under the APC government, stating that Nigerians have suffered a great deal during the last ten years, particularly the last two.
