Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, a senator from Ogun West Senatorial District, stated that the country’s hunger and poverty were the main goals of the N28.7 trillion yearly budget for 2024 that was approved and signed into law.
He reassured Nigerians that there was still hope for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, pointing out that lawmakers had increased the budget to the amount that was approved in order to address some important but unrelated issues, one of which was the strategy for addressing hunger in the country.
Adeola, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, made this statement to reporters on the fringes of a New Year’s Thanksgiving celebration on Wednesday in Ilaro, in the Yewa South Local Government area of Ogun State.
With President Bola Tinubu backing the notion and striving to alleviate Nigerians’ economic distress, he expressed optimism that hunger would be reduced through deliberate programs aimed at the impoverished.
He said President Tinubu was pleased to see how much attention both upper and lower house MPs had paid to combating poverty when he signed the budget into law.
He stated that the agricultural sector alone accounted for nearly N300 billion of the 29.7 trillion budget that was signed into law, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to doing what was best for Nigerians. He also said that this year, the nation will be focusing on food production and food security.
As you can see, the president has signed the appropriations bill into law. It now stands at N28.7 trillion, with almost N300 billion going to agriculture alone.
In short, it indicates that the current government is committed to eradicating hunger in the nation and would be making significant efforts in the food production sector.
“We, the lawmakers, have made significant contributions to eradicating hunger worldwide through the recently signed appropriations act, which guarantees food security for Nigerians,” he added.
