Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, has challenged his party to win the 2023 general election rather than the zoning structure.
Tambuwal described how they appointed Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan interim President at a meeting with past Presiding Officers of the State Assemblies and House of Representatives in Abuja on Tuesday.
Muslim-Muslim and Christian-Christian tickets, he said, are “dead on arrival.”
“When it came time for the House of Representatives to join the Senate on the matter of the theory of necessity that propelled Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to the presidency,” Tambuwal said, “my brother and friend Dimeji Bankole was unwilling to do so.” Senator Dickson Seriake, my brother and friend, was driving the charge for ex-President Jonathan to be named acting president in the wrong manner.

“The House of Representatives was tense and nearly chaotic. And we dialed Dickson’s number. I took him into my office and seated him down. Dickson, if you go down that path of boosting emotions, this thing isn’t going to fly, I remarked. Let us look at it honestly and discuss Nigeria and how to rescue it. Take the backseat if you agree. I am President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s chief officer for the northwest zone. We’re well aware of the country’s position. So let me drive it and see who that individual is who would have a stronger affection and identification with President Yar’Adua than myself, the zone’s chief officer, he said.
Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Demeji Bankole, was emotional, according to Tambuwal, who revealed that he prepared the resolution that appointed Jonathan interim president.
“Look, Mr. Speaker,” he added, “it’s about our nation, and we must do the right thing.” I was the one who started the move. This is the motion, as I said. It was written by myself. As a result, please let this go. And that was how the House passed the motion for the theory of necessity.”
“From the variety of those who are running today,” Tambuwal remarked when asked what sets him apart from other presidential candidates. Tomorrow is unknown to me. I am the youngest of all the people named that are at the forefront of this discussion for 2023. Check out our biodata, make sure it’s the real deal.
In the run-up to the 2023 election, the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum urged the party to analyze past election outcomes.
“As party leaders, we are focused on winning elections, not zoning or obtaining tickets. Yes, we may split tickets, and each person can take his or her portion and proceed to his or her designated zone. However, if you want to win an election, you must prepare beforehand. That is the truth of the situation. He said that it is not his creation.

“After we win, we can then say well, let’s share power,” Tambuwal added, urging the PDP to face reality on the demand for the party’s zoning formula. First and foremost, win the election. If you don’t win zoning, win the election, and we’ll come share power with you. Because the President and Vice President are not allowed to be from the same zone. They don’t even have to be of the same faith.”
He claimed that demographics, intra-party bickering, voter education, and other factors will decide the outcome of the 2023 general election.
“So demography is a concern,” he said, “which is why, after the election, I asked to the PDP to review the results of past role elections as we go forward to 2023.”
