PDP Action 2023, a political pressure group, has spoken out against the possibility of Atiku Abubakar becoming the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Presidential Candidate in the 2023 general election.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Hon. Rufus Omeire, the group claimed that Atiku abandoned the party when his support, advice, and direction were most needed to provide leadership following his ill-fated Presidential election.
The group claimed that Atiku was too old for the race and advised him to step down in favor of younger candidates, stating that Atiku could serve as Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), but that in order for the PDP to achieve its goal, it must present an acceptable candidate for President in 2023.
“In 2019, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presented Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. He ran against President Buhari and was defeated. In 2023, he will be 77 years old. “Now that the 2023 elections are upon us, he has returned and resumed his campaigning. Apparently, politics is the only thing he excels at, according to the group.
The Waziri Adamawa has begun strategic meetings and politicking with Governor Wike in Port Harcourt, Governor Okowa in Delta State, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, and Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State to reposition himself as a possible flag bearer of the party, according to the group.
The group advised Atiku to let a younger candidate run for the party’s presidential nomination.
“We believe the time has come for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, GCON, to step aside and make way for others, preferably the younger generation. He could be asked to become Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, where he would serve as an elder statesman and advisor to younger politicians.”
