Two policemen arrested for kidnapping minors in Sokoto

The Zone 16 Police Command headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, has paraded 10 suspects for alleged Internet fraud, possession of charms, illicit drugs and indulging in diabolical ritual activities.

Addressing journalists at the command’s headquarters in Yenagoa, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Ewhoborwo Emonena Gunn, said the suspects were arrested in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Gunn gave the names of the suspects as I’ve Godwill (m) 23 years, Princewill Oguama (m) 20 years, Anyanwu Oluebube (m) 19 years, Tochukwu Ajaegbu (m) 27 years, Daniel Samuel (m) 21 years and Akanimoh Joshua (m) 22 years.

The others are Chukwunye Ubeh (m) 19 years, Peter James (m) 28 years, Gentle Nelson (m) 22 years and a female, Ruth Kossiwa, 22 years.

They were arrested on Monday at No. 4, Peterson Avenue, Ogbogoro, Port Harcourt and would be arraigned in court and prosecuted when investigations were concluded, Gunn stated.

His words: “Their arrest followed the conduct of a covert operation by the operatives upon the receipt of intelligent information, wherein hard drugs and charms were recovered.

“The suspects upon interrogation confessed to have been involved in a series of fraudulent activities as evidence speaks volumes. The suspects will be arraigned and prosecuted once investigations are concluded.”

Gunn said the AIG in charge of Zone 16, Paul Alifa Omata, had reiterated the dedication of his officers to protect the lives and property of residents in Bayelsa and Rivers states.

According to him, the police are executing their constitutional mandate and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has also reasserted his dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.

While speaking to newsmen, the only female suspect, Ruth Kossiwa, said she was there to visit her boyfriend of one month when she was arrested alongside others on Monday morning.

In another development, men of Zone 16 recovered a Beretta pistol with some rounds of .9mm calibre ammunition at Okaki Junction in Yenagoa where a gang of armed robbers was terrorising residents.
